Traditional Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a holistic medical system that has been practiced in Asia for more than 3000 years. TCM uses a unique whole body approach to health care. It aims to identify the root cause of symptoms and disease and treat the overall body pattern. For this reason, TCM can be effectively applied to treat a wide variety of health concerns. The practitioner assesses their patient during an in-depth consultation and determines where the imbalance in the body’s organs and meridian system is originating, then uses the appropriate therapeutic modality (see list below) to restore the balance.

Acupuncture

Very fine disposable needles are inserted into specific points in the body that connect to pathways (meridians) of energy in the body that regulate physical, mental, and emotional balance. Does it hurt? No, the needles are ultra thin and most people experience no or minimal discomfort; in fact, most people find it deeply relaxing and enjoyable. The World Health Organization of the United Nations has compiled a list of some of the conditions in Western medical terms for which acupuncture is known to be effective. To see it click here.

Moxabustion

Moxabustion is an ancient heat therapy that involves the burning of the herb Ai Ye (Artemesia vulgaris or “mugwort”) either directly or indirectly onto the body at specific points. Most patients find this focus of heat in areas that have been tight and l heat, comfort and safety are maintained.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has been an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. Traditional herbal medicine provides daily support for the body’s system while it shifts and is restored to good health. The formulas and modifications used at Lotus House have been safely used for thousands of years. Lotus House uses the best and highest quality herbal medicines and offers a variety of forms such as pills, powders, and tinctures to best suit the patient’s needs and condition. 99% of the herbs used at Lotus House are from plants and no endangered species are used.

Acutonics

Acutonics is a non-invasive system of sound healing that incorporates sound and vibration to stimulate and balance the human energy field. It is similar to acupuncture but without needles. Calibrated tuning forks are applied to specific acupuncture points of the body to access the body's meridian systems. These tuning forks may be used on their own or in conjunction with acupuncture needles to effectively treat a wide variety of health conditions.

Tuina Massage

Tuina (pronounced ‘twee-na’) is the Traditional Chinese Medicine style of massage which involves vigourous stimulation of acupoints and areas of the body. When appropriate, this massage is incorporated with other modalities such as cupping.

Diet & lifestyle

Your diet and the nature of your food can play an important role in bringing your body back into good health. Dietary advice is based on the energetic properties of food (eg - warming or cooling) and needs to balance with the patient's constitution and the season. Additional lifestyle suggestions may be introduced.
